When I was in New Orleans in November, I did chalk art with my niece, two of her friends, and my youngest nephew. They all really got into it, and I loved seeing that.

New Orleans Chalk Drawing

My niece and her friends are 16-17, my nephew is 11.

They normally wouldn’t spend time together like this, but playing with chalk created a space for them to uniquely express themselves and connect with each other.

I believe that if people took more time to playfully create, we would experience a more peaceful, beautiful world.

Playful creativity ignites the soul and promotes well-being.

I encourage you to make time to playfully create.

Play with play-doh, scribble on a piece of paper, color, draw with chalk, maybe even get some finger paints or watercolors.

Art is one of the greatest meditations.

It releases stress and gives you a space to feel emotions in a healthy way.

It also activates the right hemisphere of the brain, the space of imagination and connectivity.

There’s no right or wrong way to playfully create. Just let go and have fun!

When you make time to let your inner artist express him/herself, you create a direct connection to your heart. And the world needs people who are connected with their hearts.

“Art is a way to make your soul grow.”

– Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”

– Pablo Picasso

“The goal of life is rapture. Art is the way we experience it.

Art is a transforming experience.”

 – Joseph Campbell

This is some of the chalk art that we made together that afternoon.
